Collocated Hosting

Collocation means co-location. Collocated hosting lets you place your own web server on the locations of a service provider.

This is pretty much the same as running your own server in your own office, only that it is located at a place better designed for it.

In this type of hosting, you will purchase your own server and have it housed at a web host’s facilities. You will be responsible for the server itself. An advantage of this type of hosting service is you have full control of the web server. You can install any scripts or applications you need.

This is very difficult to set you dedicated resources like high-security against fire and vandalism, regulated backup power, dedicated Internet connections and more. So collocation is the option which allows you to put your machine in a service providers premises to avail all the available facilities. This is also a very expansive option and should be opted when you have very high traffic requirement.

Good:
  1. High bandwidth.
  2. High up-time.
  3. High security.
  4. Unlimited software options.

Bad:
  1. Expensive.
  2. Requires higher skills.
  3. Harder to configure and debug.
